LAGOS EARNS N20bn ON LAND TRANSACTIONS IN THE LAST ONE YEAR

The Lagos State Government earned the sum of N20bn on Land transactions in the state in the last one year.

The Special Adviser to Governor Ambode on Urban Development, Mrs. Yetunde Onabule disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the achievements of the Bureau in the last one year at the Balgauda kaltho Press Center, in Alausa.

Mrs. Onabule said that, the revenue was made due to transactions on the sales of land for industrial development in the State adding that the revenue performance for the year under review surpassed the total revenue of the previous year by 11billion naira.

She assured that the revenue of the Bureau will continue to be improved at the kickoff of the New Schemes, transactions on State Land, and payment by defaulters.

She noted that the Bureau is optimistic of its policy to upgrade its service delivery through better strategic procedures and smarter use of information technology to enhance its revenue performance.

The Special Adviser also stated that the Lagos State Government has paid the sum of N2.22 billion as compensation to individuals and groups whose properties were affected by key projects in the State in the last one year.

She  said that the beneficiaries include those affected by the Abule-Egba link bridge, Oko Baba Sawmill relocation, Isale Igangan regeneration project, Olorunsogo Market, Mosafejo community and the Epe Phase I road expansion.

Onabule said the sites also include Orile/Badagry road expansion, Epe road expansion project (Phase II) , proposed sites for BRT bus lane/park in Abule-Egba, site acquired for housing estate in Ilado, among others.

She noted that payment of compensation is ongoing and enumeration in some other cases of proposed sites as well as acquired and revoked property, adding that payment of  compensation must be with the presentation of all necessary documents as might be required.

She stated that individuals and groups were also given alternative land in lieu of monetary compensation.

“It is worthy to state that when land is acquired and title revoked for over-riding public interest, it is our duty and obligation as a responsible and responsive government to pay compensation,” Onabule said.
