As part of efforts to strengthen the relationship between the residents of Isheri North, Isheri Estate Community and the Lagos State Government, the State Lands Bureau recently organised an interactive session with stakeholders of both communities.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Lands Bureau, Mr. Bode Agoro, noted that the purpose of the interactive session was to address the complaints contained in a letter that residents of the community sent to the Governor proffering lasting solutions to their grievances. He restated that the government of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is people-oriented and committed to resolving their disputes. Responding to a complaint about a certain piece of land yet to be released to the community by the government, Agoro said, “The parcel of land is 1.07 hectares in size. It is a Federal allocated land and falls outside Isheri-North residential scheme. The land has subsequently been allocated to the Taskforce with a layout plan that includes a recreational centre, a clinic and structures for other services”. Agoro explained that the State government only grants excision to recognised landowning families in the community, noting that an approved layout plan is also a compulsory requirement for the process. In response to a request for land to build community structures, the Permanent Secretary revealed that some parcels of land within the scheme layout have already been earmarked for recreational facilities. While affirming that ‘Omo Oniles’ do not have legal rights to any landed property in the scheme, Agoro urged property owners to regularise their assets with the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation. Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Land Use and Allocation Committee, Mrs. Ololade Ajetunmobi, assured the residents that although the said parcel of land falls under government excision, the request of the Community will be evaluated and the resolution reached would be beneficial to all sides. Earlier, the Chairman of Isheri-North CDA, Mrs. Funmilayo Bisiriyu appealed that a portion of the parcel of land be allocated to the community for the construction of a primary healthcare centre, police post and a recreational centre for the benefit of residents in the community. In his contribution, the General Secretary of Isheri North CDA, Engr. Dayo Ayandokun, appealed to the government for basic amenities like a healthcare centre, seeking that the government should pay attention to their needs and respond positively to their demands.
